Rainbow Projections - The Hidden Object, Artist 's edition screen print/ installation, 2019

In April 2019, eleven artists gathered in a single space. Behind a curtain within that room lay an object crafted by the skilled hands of the artist and blacksmith, Steve Spilstyns. We collectively observed this scene for approximately 10 minutes before allowing it to vanish. What followed was an invitation to craft a creation inspired by this concealed object.

I began this project with the objective of creating three planes of graphic projection based on the hidden object: the front view, the left profile and the top view. Initially, I partially reconstructed the scene in my studio, using formal elements from the original composition. I then completed the three projection views by juxtaposing images from my personal photo archive through a photomontage process. The result was a new and distinct object or scene.

What is hidden remains hidden, it is the imagination that fuels and shapes our desires, - endless possibilities.

For this installation, I explored a way to present the silkscreen artwork three-dimensionally. This was achieved by printing recto-verso on the paper, folding it and finally presenting the object on a minimalist pedestal in the space. Folding the paper created an open spac, that for me symbolised the hidden object; a space where memories and imaginations can be reconstructed, - to meet, be rediscovered and see again.
