Compiled and written in the summer of 2024, this book responds to the growing interest—both from my students and from myself—in exploring screen printing as an artistic medium. Despite its dynamic and multifaceted nature, screen printing remains relatively unfamiliar to the general public as an art form. In my role as a teacher at the Academy of Visual and Audiovisual Arts in Anderlecht, Brussels (BE), I use the core concepts presented in this book as the foundation of my pedagogical approach. These concepts go beyond technical instruction; they introduce ways of thinking, seeing, and creating that help students navigate and master the complexities of screen printing.

Screen Printing: Core Concepts serves as a guide for students, artists, and educators engaged with screen printing. It offers an in-depth exploration of the fundamental principles of the medium, addressing both technical and artistic dimensions. Each concept opens new possibilities for exploration and expression, encouraging critical reflection and pushing the boundaries of what screen printing can achieve.

This first edition is a prototype—far from complete.
It is my intention to continue developing the ideas presented here over the coming years through an ongoing dialogue with students, artists, and educators in the field. Their input, work, reflections, and feedback will ensure that the book continues to grow and evolve.
